Been studying the alternator wiring on my 1966 Galaxie. The previous owner really hacked up the wiring both under the dash and under the hood. I have a lot of stuff to fix. Anyway. Here is what I have.
Voltage Reg: F - alternator Field
S - alternator stator
A - Hot to battery side of solenoid
I - Not sure what he has this hooked too. It goes to a brown wire on the harness.
My 66 shop manual shows that :
F- is the alternator field
S- Switched Hot 12V
A- Hot side of solenoid (battery side of solenoid)
I- unused
I also see a wire coming off the alternator stator lug on the schematic, but it just terminates and does not hook to anything? Not sure on this one. Thanks for any feedback on this.

Hi k4apy,
The "I" terminal on the voltage regulator goes to the dash "ALT" indicator light. I don't have a diagram handy so I'll describe that circuit as best I can.
One wire of the "ALT" light goes ultimately to the "I" terminal on the voltage regulator, the other wire of the "ALT" light ultimately ends up at the ignition switch accessory terminal. When I say accessory terminal I also mean hot in run and accessory key positions.
Not quite sure how close you want to stick to stock wiring routing, but under the hood on three of our 1966's the voltage regulator is mounted on the passenger side near the starter solenoid and the other 66 has a factory looking harness that routes it on the drivers side (not sure why). On the passenger side version routing there is a bullet disconnect near the starter solenoid, a green wire I believe or a stripped green wire, that should go to the "I" terminal on the regulator and is of course the lead that goes back to the "ALT" light.
Hope that helps a bit.

Thank You! This is what I was needing along with the shop manual. I finally found what I needed in the shop manual. Seems there is a under dash schematic for with and without ammeters. The under hood schematic doesn't differentiate, so I was seeing both and trying to figure out how the Stator and the I (Indication) terminals worked. I think I finally have it right in my head.
I appreciate everyones help on this.

You're welcome, the schematics in the '66 shop manual aren't the most explicative. The ammeters were used in the Mercury's I believe and the full size ford only used the light.
Cheers,
